Each year, Charlottesville 29 (the OG of local foodie blogs) holds a restaurant auction to benefit the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, consisting of 29 once in a lifetime experiences crafted exclusively for this auction. Simon approached us to develop campaign materials to distribute to local restaurants to raise awareness about the auction.

Each year, we look for a few pro-bono design projects that pay it forward and promote the greater good. Watermark was approached to design a campaign to raise awareness for The Code Red Project. Code Red brings to the light what we take for granted, but is greatly missed by those who can not afford pricey, but necessary products.

Their mission:

“Code Red is an organization that serves to provide personal care and menstrual products to homeless and refugee women and girls,

Since 2007, we have been so lucky to continue to grow and change with the ebb and flow of technology and client needs, but we always come back to who we are at the heart, a design and branding firm, and this year clarified that focus.

This year, we saw a growing respect and desire for custom-illustrated pieces, implemented not only on label design, but throughout branding/marketing pieces as well. We have enjoyed integrating custom illustrations into web design to further customize our client’s online presence,

The Boar’s Head Inn approached Watermark Design earlier this year to marry the established high-end resort, Boar’s Head, with the intellectual inspiration of Thomas Jefferson. Watermark gathered antique botanical drawings and analytical drawings of animals to use as representative illustrations for each section of the trail. As the audience passes through the trail, periodically outcroppings and locations will feature the appropriate figure of flora and fauna.

Each illustration was created by hand through thousands of stippled and crosshatched marks in ink to create stylization reminiscent of lithography.
