As we reach the halfway point in the year, we’ve noticed several trends in upcoming breweries and packaging that have been launched in the beer market. Ranging from clean and geometric to a humanist touch with individually drawn lines, all these packages are gaining award-winning traction in design and beer forums.

Watermark Design was awarded 2 new cannonballs in the 2015 Richmond Design Show, presented by the Richmond Ad Club. We were thrilled to be recognized again, and in such great company as the Martin Agency. The silver was awarded to the Barstools & Dreamers premium beer label series and the bronze for Upper Shirley Vineyard’s brand identity and wine label design.

Cans have become a staple of the craft beer industry as brands garner their aesthetics around the sleek, clean and eye-popping look that aluminum renders. Breweries have lauded the superiority of can production versus amber glass as they cut UV exposure (i.e. there is none) and have environmentally friendly production because they are more compact for shipping. Simultaneously, the onset of mobile canning has become a cheaper, streamlined option for smaller scale facilities that can ill-afford the tens of thousands of dollars needed to purchase a canning line for themselves.

Tarara Winery Brand & Wine Label Refresh

Tarara Winery tasked Watermark Design with maintaining the brand equity built since their first grapes were planted, in 1987, as well as a personal attachment to the existing imagery. We were asked to bring the brand in-line with the quality of wine being produced today.

The new wine label design is pictured above [Right]. We maintained the existing imagery by reducing it’s size and presence,
